The Power of the Word Conferences
Two features in particular have marked the Power of the Word conferences from the beginning: offering a warm welcome to an international and interdisciplinary group of participants and a desire to include both theoretical discussion and appreciation and analysis of specific authors and texts. The first and second conference were held in the University of London, the original home of the project. The choice of Gdansk (Poland) in 2013 and Rome (Italy) in 2015 as venues for the third and fourth conferences confirmed their thoroughly international character. Scholars and students from Europe, North and South America and elsewhere who did not take part in earlier conferences now form an integral part of the Power of the Word network and many also returned for the fifth meeting in Oxford (UK) in 2017 and took part in the online sixth conference in 2021. Now we look ahead to our seventh conversation, once again in Rome, this time hosted by the Sapienza University.
