Dr Frank Turner's long-term work has been to seek the integration of theological and spiritual reflection with social justice. His Ph.D completed in 1990 explored the significance for theology of the political philosopher Eric Voegelin: between 1990 and 1997 he taught theology at the University of Manchester, while living in an area of acute social derivation; then at Heythrop College London while being the Jesuit Province’s Assistant for Formation.

Between 1997 and 2004 he served as Assistant General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, in effect the bishops’ advisor and representative on international affairs.

From 2005 to 2014 he worked in Brussels at the Jesuit office that analyses and comments on the affairs of the European Union, whilst supporting EU officials and parliamentarians striving to integrate their political responsibilities with their Christian faith.

In the academic year 2014-15 he held the Lo Schiavo Chair in Catholic Studies and Social Thought at the University of San Francisco.

On returning to the UK he has been the ‘Province’s Delegate for the Intellectual Apostolate’ a role of coordination and planning. His academic work is focused on political theology and Catholic social thought.
